The challenge: fast growth, and bookkeeping growing just as fast

Being an AI-native agency means adopting the best tools on the market early, and Moriah uses plenty of them: around twenty software subscriptions, plus freelancers, travel and day-to-day expenses. Every supplier has its own way of sending invoices: some by email, others through their customer portal, others via messaging apps. All payments go through Revolut Business.

The upshot: invoices and payments don't match up on their own. For Pennylane to reflect the business accurately, every document has to be tracked down wherever it lives, filed in the right place and matched to its transaction. Standard collection tools only pick up some of the invoices. And Raphaël is running a fast-growing startup: his days are devoted to clients, hiring and growing the agency, and every minute counts.

In January 2026, Moriah's growth takes it onto monthly VAT returns. Raphaël sets himself a clear goal: to know every month what came in, what went out, how much VAT is due and where his cash stands. True to his agency's DNA, he chooses to hand these operations to AI agents overseen by experts. It's the model he built Moriah on, and it's Sanso's model too: an AI-native service where AI handles the volume while people supervise, review and fill in the gaps.

This isn't my first company, and I'd always been looking for the right bookkeeping solution. I tried plenty, and none of them delivered. Sanso is the first one that really works.

The solution: AI agents that collect, match and analyse, experts who review and decide

Sanso plugs into Moriah's Pennylane account and handles the collection of supporting documents end to end. Raphaël has nothing to set up and doesn't spend a second on it. Collection happens continuously, without waiting for month-end, in five steps:

  1. Collect from email. Sanso's AI agents pick up invoices the moment they land in the inboxes of Raphaël and his co-founder, and send them straight to Pennylane, attached to the right supplier. This channel covers most expenses.
  2. Retrieve from the bank. Receipts and invoices uploaded to Revolut Business flow straight into Pennylane.
  3. Fetch invoices from supplier platforms. For suppliers that don't send invoices by email, such as some tech tools and transport services, Sanso's AI agents retrieve them directly from the supplier portals.
  4. Match. Each invoice is matched to its bank transaction as it comes in, so Pennylane always shows which expenses are documented. Currency differences are handled: a subscription billed in dollars and paid in euros is matched accurately, where standard auto-matching trips over the difference in amounts.
  5. Analyse and categorise expenses with AI. Each expense is automatically assigned to the right category: software, freelancers, travel, overhead. New suppliers are recognised and categorised correctly, with no rules to set up by hand: the AI understands each expense from the invoice itself, whereas a standard tool only knows the suppliers it has already been taught. As a result, Pennylane shows spending broken down by category, ready to use for cash-flow tracking.

The results: peace of mind for the founder, cash flow under control

No more cold sweats. Bookkeeping is no longer something Raphaël has to worry about: it moves forward without him, every month. His VAT is filed on complete records, he recovers everything he's entitled to and manages his cash with confidence, free of surprises.

A clear financial picture at the start of every month. Pennylane is up to date every month, with expenses already sorted by category. Raphaël knows exactly where his spending stands, sees what his tools and freelancers cost, and has complete records for VAT and cash-flow tracking.

My goal is to have Pennylane up to date every month. By the 2nd of the following month, I know how much came in, how much went out, how much VAT I'm getting back, and where my cash stands.
Raphaël Presberg, co-founder of Moriah

Near-complete collection. In the very first month, 77% of expenses were documented in Pennylane, with eight in ten invoices arriving automatically by email. Since invoice retrieval from supplier platforms was automated, that figure has reached 98%. Every month, Moriah recovers all the VAT it's entitled to, with no invoice left behind.

An accountant working from complete books. Documents are collected and matched as they come in. Moriah's accounting firm has up-to-date records for its monthly VAT returns and can focus on advising Raphaël.

A founder focused on growth. Raphaël spends his time on his clients, on growing the agency and on building his team. Every new type of expense goes through the same setup, with no extra effort.

Sound familiar?

  • Invoices to fetch from every portal
  • Some twenty subscriptions to document every month
  • Expenses that are hard to track category by category
  • VAT only partly recovered

Frequently asked questions

Can Sanso automatically collect expense invoices into Pennylane?
Yes. Sanso's AI agents pick up invoices as soon as they arrive by email and send them to Pennylane, attached to the right supplier. Receipts uploaded to the business bank account flow into Pennylane too.
Does Sanso retrieve invoices that aren't sent by email?
Yes. When suppliers only make their invoices available on their customer portal, as some tech tools and transport services do, Sanso's AI agents fetch them directly from those portals.
Can Sanso match an invoice in dollars with a payment in euros?
Yes. Currency differences are handled: a subscription billed in dollars and paid in euros is matched to its bank transaction accurately.
How does Sanso categorise expenses?
The AI reads each invoice to understand what the expense is, then assigns it to the right category: software, freelancers, travel, overhead. New suppliers are recognised automatically, with no rules to set up by hand.
Does Sanso replace the accountant?
No. Sanso collects and matches documents as they come in, so the accounting firm works from up-to-date books for VAT returns and can focus on advising its client.
